What artificial intelligence does to art: a cartography

Location: Art Talks at Luxembourg Art Week
Language: English
Guest speaker: Klaus Speidel
Moderator: Vincent Crapon
In collaboration with Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg

"The opposite of art" or "the future of creativity" —debates surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) are harsh and controversial. In a context where emotions often prevail over arguments, Klaus Speidel will map important positions, and revisit current debates in light of major questions and art theories of the 20th and 21st centuries. What happens when style — which continues to define the practice of many artists — becomes reproducible with a simple "prompt"? How do we judge the value of an AI-assisted creation? And what makes a work created with the help of AI truly a work of art? These are some of the questions the talk will address, not to provide definitive answers but to lay out ways in which they might be found. The talk is based on a book on AI and art that Klaus Speidel is currently working on.
